1-Drinking too many sugary beverages
One should try to avoid all types of sugary beverages as they are loaded with calories. Aerated drinks are also full of sugar and can play haywire with one’s diet. Sugar in tea and sugar can also one’s calorie meter . Sugary items like cakes and cookies are people’s comfort foods but are detrimental to weight loss. Avoiding all types of sugar is an excellent weight loss tool as sugar contributes immensely to a person’s calorie intake.
2- Drinking too much alcohol
Alcohol has about 7 calories per gram which is quite high. Alcohol also stops the body from burning fat.it can lead to an increase in appetite so can cause weight gain. Beverages like beer and wine have high sugar content and these get stored in the body as fat and lead to belly fat. In addition, alcohol consumption also damages liver functions affecting the way the body metabolises and stores carbohydrates and fats. Alcohol also makes one less inhibited leading to poor food choices. Alcohol therefore leads to impaired digestion and absorption of nutrients and affects the metabolism of organs that play a role in weight loss.
3- Eating too often
There are a number of theories like one should eat small meals frequently to boost metabolism and lose weight. Eating too often may result in an increase in calories there by hindering fat loss. 3 balanced meals are all that one needs to fuel the body. Meal frequency has little or no effect on fat burning or weight loss. It all boils down to the number of calories consumed versus the number of calories burnt.
4- Lack of sleep
Lack of sleep can also contribute to weight gain. Sleep deprivation can make you feel irritable, depressed ,confused which can affect your activity levels and food choices. Lack of sleep leads to less secretion of cortisol which regulates appetite. Being tired may cause you to give up on your diet and reach out to comfort and high calorie foods. It may also lead to binge eating and succumb to unhealthy foods and also snacking. Good sleep will result in good energy levels that one can invest in other aspects of health.
5- Not getting enough exercise
Exercise is important and plays a crucial part in burning calories.Weight loss occurs because of decrease in calorie intake. Evidence and studies have proved that the only way to maintain weight loss is to be engaged in regular physical activity .Activities like jogging, brisk walking, jumping rope are all high impact exercises which burn calories rapidly. Indulging in regular weight training can also help in weight loss as weight breaks down the muscle and more calories are needed to build it up again. Keeping one’s preference one should try to indulge in any form of physical activity on a regular basis.
In addition to the above mentioned causes there could be a number of other reasons like stress, sedentary lifestyle. Eating the wrong types of foods, lack of motivation etc which catapult weight.
